Back Pain – A Widespread Condition

By Yesha KarmeliPublished Updated

What to do about back pain?

We have all had it at some point: agonizing pain anywhere from the cervical spine to the tip of the tailbone, which for some is already part of everyday life. Today, one in three Germans suffers from back pain. But where does it come from, and what can you do?Causes of back pain, naturopathic practitioner Berlin - holistic Back pain can be traced back to various causes and can be distinguished by the type of pain. Like all other pain in the body, it is a sign that something is not right. Possible causes of back pain include:

Common causes of back pain are:

  • lack of exercise
  • tension and stress
  • excess weight
  • bowel and digestive problems

Other causes:

  • nerve inflammation
  • inflammation of the intervertebral disc
  • bone thickening
  • lumbago
  • osteoporosis
  • tumors and more.

Back pain due to lack of exercise

More than half of all Germans do not get enough exercise. Many people work in offices, which means they do not get the amount of movement the human body needs. The resulting lack of exercise and the poor posture often associated with it not only have a negative effect on the cardiovascular and immune systems, but also damage the muscles and joints and change the body. Lack of exercise increases the proportion of body fat, puts heavy strain on the back, and often leaves you feeling tired, sluggish, and weak, which in turn leads to back problems.

Back pain due to tension and stress

Psychological causes are also very often responsible for back pain. Frequent stress in everyday life not only has a negative effect on your health, but can also have long-lasting consequences. When we feel stressed, our muscles tense up due to the release of the stress hormone adrenaline. Frequent or prolonged stress increases the level of adrenaline in the body and leads to long-lasting tension, which in turn leads to problems in the back area. For this reason, we should make sure to build sufficient breaks with short periods of movement into our everyday lives.

Back pain due to excess weight

Excess weight is considered a trigger for many diseases, including back pain. A high proportion of body fat weakens the spine and puts heavy strain on it. Insufficient exercise favors this process, and pain occurs in the back area.

Bowel and digestive problems in back pain

In naturopathy, a connection is described between the bowel, the digestive system, and back pain, especially in the lower back. Bowel complaints should be clarified by a physician. Bowel problems do not always show up as digestive complaints. Since the large intestine lies in close proximity to the deep trunk and back muscles of the lumbar spine and the hip flexor muscle, naturopathy assumes that irritation in this area can contribute to tension in these muscle groups.

Treatment options

For bowel and digestive complaints, we offer colon hydrotherapy, among other things, at Natura Heilpraxis. In this procedure, water is introduced into the bowel under light pressure. Meanwhile, the abdominal wall is massaged and the water temperature is alternated between 21° and 41°. During the colon irrigation, the large intestine is flushed with water. Probiotics may be used afterwards. Before colon hydrotherapy, an intestinal flora test is carried out, on the basis of which we draw up a therapy plan together with you.

The duration of the resulting back pain can vary. For many people, the pain disappears on its own after a short time. For others, it can last for days or even several weeks. If the pain lasts for more than 6 weeks, it is referred to as acute back pain.
