What Is Colon Hydrotherapy?

Colon hydrotherapy is a naturopathic application in which the large intestine is gently rinsed with temperature-controlled water using a device designed for this purpose.

During the application, the person lies relaxed on a treatment couch. The procedure is individually adapted and accompanied by manual, external abdominal massage. Water inflow and outflow take place in a controlled and hygienic manner via a closed system.

A session usually lasts about 45 to 60 minutes. How the application is perceived varies from person to person.

In individual cases, the services we offer cannot replace treatment by a physician, psychotherapist or physiotherapist. Please do not discontinue ongoing treatment by a physician, psychotherapist or physiotherapist or postpone such treatment.

Why Do People Choose Colon Hydrotherapy?

Many people are interested in colon hydrotherapy as part of a holistic well-being and self-care concept. In general understanding, the intestine is regarded as the central organ of digestion and, in many people's everyday lives, plays an important role in their personal sense of their body.

Colon hydrotherapy is often used alongside conscious nutrition, sufficient fluid intake and a health-oriented lifestyle. The aim is a supportive colon rinse.

The application does not replace medical diagnosis or treatment and is not intended to cure or relieve diseases.

The Colon Hydrotherapy Procedure

Colon hydrotherapy begins with a short preliminary consultation. During this, the procedure is explained, individual questions are answered and possible contraindications are checked.

The application then takes place in a calm atmosphere while you lie down. Temperature-controlled water is fed into the large intestine and drained again in a controlled manner via a special closed system. The entire process is continuously supervised and individually regulated. Meanwhile, a gentle, external abdominal massage is carried out to make the process more comfortable.

After the application, a short rest period is recommended to give the body time for perception and relaxation. Advice on what to do after the application (e.g. fluid intake, light diet) can be given on request.

Colon Hydrotherapy During Fasting

Many patients also use colon hydrotherapy during fasting programs.

In practice, it has proven useful to carry out a first rinse directly on the first day of fasting. It then makes sense to follow up with another session every second day.

In individual cases, an additional session can also be carried out on the days in between. For short fasting programs of a maximum of 3 days, two applications per day are also possible by arrangement.

Information on Risks and Tolerability

When carried out properly, colon hydrotherapy is considered well tolerated. Nevertheless, temporary changes in well-being may occur after an application, such as fatigue, headaches or a changed feeling in the abdomen. These sensations are perceived differently from person to person.

In rare cases, nausea or mild abdominal cramps may occur during or after the application.

Colon hydrotherapy should not be carried out if any of the following contraindications are present:

  • Acute intestinal inflammation

  • Intestinal obstruction (ileus)

  • Colon or rectal cancer

  • Gastrointestinal bleeding

  • Recent surgery in the abdominal, colon or rectal area

  • Fissures or fistulas in the anal or intestinal area

  • Abdominal wall hernias

  • Aneurysms

  • Severe heart failure

  • Liver cirrhosis

  • Anemia

  • Pregnancy

If in doubt, it is recommended to seek medical advice beforehand.
