Estrogen Dominance / Progesterone Deficiency
In estrogen dominance, there is an imbalance between the hormones estrogen and progesterone (corpus luteum hormone) in favor of estrogen. In naturopathy, it is associated with premenstrual syndrome, menopausal complaints, overweight, headaches and numerous other complaints. With hormones, it is not only their absolute levels that matter, but also their levels in relation to other hormones. The relative excess of estrogen compared to progesterone causes complaints as if there were too much estrogen in the body. This phenomenon is called "estrogen dominance" because estrogen is stronger, i.e. more dominant, in relation to progesterone. This can even be the case if there is a slight estrogen deficiency. Paradoxical as it may seem, complaints of an estrogen deficiency and of estrogen dominance can be present at the same time.
