Organic acids – metabolic test

Organic acids are intermediate products of metabolism and provide deep insight into biochemical metabolic processes. Measuring organic acids in the urine provides an overview of the extent to which nutrients taken in with food can be utilized and converted into energy (ATP).

The test covers a wide range of metabolic products and provides indications in the following areas:

  • Disorders of mitochondrial energy production (citric acid cycle)
  • Neurotransmitter metabolic disorders
  • Impairments of vitamin B metabolism
  • oxidative damage, nitrosative stress
  • Detoxification disorders
  • microbial imbalance of the gut (intestinal dysbiosis)
  • Micronutrient deficiency
  • Amino acid deficits
  • Alpha-lipoic acid and coenzyme Q10 deficits

This test is often requested in connection with chronic or non-specific complaints such as:

  • chronic fatigue, exhaustion
  • headaches and migraine
  • concentration, memory and learning difficulties
  • sleep disorders
  • depression, anxiety, mood swings
  • muscle pain
  • cardiovascular diseases
  • irregular bowel movements, bloating
