How heat therapy works
"Give me the means to produce fever, and I will cure any disease!" Parmenides (540-480 BC) An elevated temperature is present from 37.5°C, a real fever above 39°C. Both under normal circumstances and in fever therapy, so-called pyrogens (fever-inducing substances) trigger the rise in temperature. In response, the organism starts an inflammatory reaction: fever. In naturopathy, fever therapy is described in connection with the immune response, since overall metabolic activity and the activity of many immune cells (granulocytes, macrophages, lymphocytes) increase in an elevated temperature range.
Topics for which fever therapy is discussed in naturopathy:
- Lyme disease
- Circulation
- Support during chemotherapy (only in consultation with the treating physicians)
- Research on combining heat and chemotherapy (treatment exclusively by the treating physicians)
- Fibromyalgia
- Chronic pain
Toxins
People take in pollutants every day. Sources include preservatives, plastic packaging, skin and hair care products, medicines, metals or chemical environmental substances, which we also ingest with our food.
Infrared sauna – heat therapy
At an air temperature of only about 30 to 40°C, the body is warmed with infrared light in the sauna. Warmth and sweating: in naturopathy, the infrared sauna is described in connection with detox concepts, relaxation and well-being.During the session, the body warms up, blood flow to the skin increases and the body begins to sweat. Many people find the warmth pleasant when they have muscle tension. In the case of skin diseases, and during chemotherapy or radiotherapy, it should only be used after consulting the treating physicians.
Combination with niacin:
In naturopathic detox concepts, niacin, also known as vitamin B3, is combined with physical exercise followed by sweating in the sauna. According to this view, substances stored in fat cells, such as environmental heavy metals, drugs, medication residues, preservatives or solvents, are meant to be released and excreted. As a supplement, this concept also describes taking an alkaline bath in the evening (possibly just a foot bath) and taking charcoal.
