Vitamin B17 (amygdalin) is discussed in naturopathy in connection with cancer; its effectiveness has not been scientifically proven. The treatment of cancer belongs in the hands of physicians. “Vitamin B17” is not a true vitamin but a so-called pseudovitamin. The term is commonly used as a blanket term for the cyanogenic glycosides amygdalin, laetrile and mandelonitrile. In their native form, these plant substances occur particularly in stone fruits. B17 occurs as an inactive form of hydrocyanic acid in apricot kernels or bitter almonds.
