Natura Heilpraxis cupping therapy

What is cupping?

Cupping has been used for thousands of years as a traditional naturopathic method in various cultures worldwide and is one of the classic elimination methods. A distinction is made between dry cupping, wet (bloody) cupping and cupping massage.

Cupping is carried out using so-called cupping glasses, which are placed on the skin. Glasses of different diameters and strengths are used. A vacuum pump creates negative pressure that "sucks in" the skin area concerned. Cupping is applied in the area of the reflex zones on the client's back.

The cupping glasses are usually removed after about 10 to 15 minutes. In Traditional Chinese Medicine and other Asian healing methods, dry cupping tends to be used for states of emptiness (yin, cold), while wet cupping tends to be used for so-called states of fullness (yang, heat).

In cupping massage, the back is first oiled and then massaged with a cupping glass.

In what context is cupping used?

Cupping therapy is used in particular for so-called hardenings in the subcutaneous tissue. In naturopathy, these are associated with disturbed blood flow. The negative pressure draws up the skin; many people find the application pleasant. Traditionally, cupping is used in connection with the following complaints:

• neck tension

• back pain, disc problems, lumbago

• knee problems, carpal tunnel syndrome

• tension headache

• osteoarthritic pain

• lymphatic congestion

• headaches, ringing in the ears, dizziness

• high blood pressure, low blood pressure, tiredness

• depression, states of weakness

• organ problems and digestive disorders

Contraindications

In the case of skin injuries (e.g. from sunburn, burns, abrasions or similar) and tumors, the cups should not be placed on the affected skin area. With wet cupping, care must also be taken that the client does not have a blood clotting disorder or anemia. Cupping is also not advisable in cases of dehydration, a tendency to faint, cardiac arrhythmias or coronary insufficiency.
